We Will Face HB Ostrov in the Playoffs

01/05/2025

The regular season of the top women's league has concluded, and the playoff matchups are now set. All of the title contenders have made it through, including our team, which will be looking to at least replicate last year's success. Whether the new playoff format suits us remains to be seen.

In recent years, the women's Extraliga has seen many changes, especially in the structure of the regular season and playoffs. Last year's playoffs were played under a format similar to the men's pre-reform system: one table, first to four wins, with a deciding doubles match if tied 3:3. However, this setup often resulted in matches lasting over four hours, which was unpopular with both fans and players.

That's why this year, the league has taken a step forward — the playoffs will now follow the same format as the men's Extraliga. This means best-of-three matches, played with three players per team, and matches decided by the first team to reach three wins. While this format could be a challenge for some teams, it also promises faster, more dynamic matches and greater tactical depth.

It remains to be seen how quickly teams will adapt. The new format may benefit teams with a standout player or those with a balanced squad. In any case, we can expect a lot of strategic decision-making — just like we see in the men's league.

Our trio will face the current vice-champions, HB Ostrov, in the quarterfinals — a tough challenge for sure. HB Ostrov might be slight favorites, but we've already shown in the first half of the season that we can go toe-to-toe with anyone. The outcome will likely depend on current form and how well each team adapts to the new format.

The exact dates of the matches have yet to be announced, but we'll definitely need your support for the home fixture. We'll keep you posted as soon as the schedule is confirmed!
