Radim Morávek Claims Gold in Prostějov

The Czech National Championships for men and women 2025 took place last weekend in Prostějov. While the singles titles were secured by David Reitšpies and Zdena Blažková, our club also had plenty to celebrate. Despite the absence of two of our top players, Patrik Klos and Tamara Tomanová, we still managed to leave a mark on the tournament.

Radim Morávek captured a gold medal in the men's doubles, teaming up with Ondřej Květon from Liberec. The duo triumphed in the final against the top-seeded pair from Chodov – Antonín Gavlas and Jiří Martinek. It was Radim's first national title, a sweet reward especially given his early exit from the singles competition. He fell in the second round to Pavel Širuček, losing 1:4 in sets.

"The singles match was a real battle – I gave it my all. Every set was close, but in the end, it just didn't go my way," Radim reflected. "I really wanted to go further, but I take it as a valuable experience. On the bright side, I made up for it in the doubles with Ondra. Winning the title feels amazing. Throughout the tournament, I felt I was getting into better rhythm and approached each match with full intensity and focus. Sure, there were tough moments, but I stayed concentrated and tried to show my best. Maybe I ran out of steam in singles, but I think I showed real fight and competitiveness."

In the men's singles, Vít Kadlec made the deepest run of all our players. He breezed past Jiří Řeháček (El Niňo) in round two and then beat Martin Koblížek 4:2. His journey ended in the quarterfinals after falling 1:4 to Antonín Gavlas.

On the women's side, Helena Sommerová reached the quarterfinals, where she met the eventual champion Zdena Blažková. Helena got off to a fantastic start, leading 2:0 in sets, but Blažková's experience eventually turned the tide. Helena narrowly lost 3:4 in a dramatic match.

Also competing in the main draw were Ondřej Bajger and Jindřich Morávek. Ondřej exited in the first round after a 0:4 loss to Havířov's Daniel Košťál. Jindra, on the other hand, had a strong run – defeating Vít Benák (Elizza) 4:0 and then Tomáš Tregler – before falling to Adam Štalzer in the round of 16.
