Morávek and Kadlec Bring Home Bronze

19/06/2024

This past weekend, the Czech National U19 Championships took place in Most. Under the guidance of our coaches, we managed to win three valuable medals—unfortunately, none of them gold. The closest to claiming the title were Vít Kadlec and Jindřich Morávek, but they ultimately had to bow to their opponents.

The event in Most marked the final Czech National Individual Championship of the season. A number of our players participated, though the tournament had to go on without Helena Sommerová due to injury. She would have undoubtedly been one of the top contenders for the title.

The furthest progress was made by Vít Kadlec and Jindřich Morávek. In addition to these two, Jonáš Rak and Jaroslav Jůza also competed in the main draw. Unfortunately, both were eliminated in the first round by players from Havířov. Jonáš Rak failed to convert a 3:0 set lead and lost in seven sets to Antonín Baroš, while Jaroslav Jůza was unable to put up much resistance against Daniel Košťál and exited the tournament after a 0:4 defeat.

In the girls' singles competition, Eliška Stramová represented our club but, like her teammates, fell in the first round to Karolína Janků from Lomnice.

The first medal came in the men's doubles. Vít Kadlec secured a bronze medal alongside Daniel Košťál from SKST Havířov. No other pair from our club managed to follow up on their success in doubles. However, our players shone again in singles: both Jindřich Morávek and Vít Kadlec earned bronze medals in the individual competition.

In the semifinals, neither player managed to overcome their opponent—Jindra lost 1:4 to Štěpán Brhel from HB Ostrov, and Víťa was defeated by the eventual champion, Martin Šíp from Kotlářka Prague.

In total, we brought home three bronze medals from Most. The last opportunity to add more medals from the national championships will come this weekend, when the traditional Czech National Team Championships take place. This year, the event will be hosted in Havlíčkův Brod, and once again, our club will be represented in both the men's and women's team categories. Let's see how our players perform!
