Drama until the very end

17/04/2025

One word — drama. That's how you could describe yesterday's televised early match of the 16th round of the top domestic league, where our "A" team hosted opponents from northern Bohemia, SKST Liberec. The winner was decided in the very last singles match, giving the fans an intense match right down to the final point.

Our home team got off to a strong start, thanks mainly to Patrik Klos, who defeated Jakub Seibert in straight sets and once again proved why he's one of the top players this season. However, Radim Morávek couldn't keep the momentum going and lost a close 2-3 to Liberec's number one Michal Beneš, leveling the score. The battle for the lead moved to the teams' third players.

In the third singles, home player Vít Kadlec quickly took a 2-0 lead in sets and looked set to close out the match. Ondřej Květon fought back, but Vít held on and won 3-1.

The fourth singles was a showdown between the teams' top players. Michal Beneš showed his class again by beating Patrik Klos 3-1, so the match came down to the final singles.

That decisive match featured Radim Morávek and Jakub Seibert, both of whom had struggled earlier. In a tense duel, Seibert kept his nerve better, winning 3-1 after two consecutive clutch endings, securing a deserved victory for Liberec.

With this win, SKST Liberec caught up with us on points, but thanks to a better match ratio, we still hold 6th place in the standings. The final rankings before the playoffs are still open.

Our team will have a chance to earn more points next Friday, when they face Hradec Králové away. On the same day at 6 p.m., our "B" team will host Liberec at home.
