About us
History and Achievements of the Club
TJ Ostrava KST Table Tennis Club is the successor of the traditional and successful club TJ NH Ostrava, founded in 1952. It is one of the oldest and most successful table tennis clubs in the Czech Republic. Among its greatest achievements are reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions Cup in 1997, the ETTU Cup quarterfinals in 1998, winning the Intercup in 1993, and claiming the Czech National Team Championship titles in 1996 and 1998, as well as winning the Czech Cup in 1995 and 1997.
Over the years, many Czech national team players have competed for the club, including Čihák, Klásek, Bindač, Karásek, Demek, Košťál, Štěpánek, Javůrek, Vožický, Prokopcov, and even the world mixed doubles champion, the Chinese player Qin Zhi Jian.
Present day
Ostrava has always been a stronghold of table tennis in the Czech Republic, with seven out of ten men's Extraliga teams historically based here. Today, TJ Ostrava KST remains one of only two professionally managed clubs in the city of Ostrava. The club offers a complete competition structure, from elite sports to recreational play. Training sessions are organized in groups at designated times and led by qualified coaches.
The club hosts a selected Youth Sports Center established by the Czech Table Tennis Association, where national team players aged 10 to 21 are developed. TJ Ostrava KST is capable of organizing top-level tournaments such as the Czech Junior Team Championships and the traditional Teichert Memorial. Alongside TJ Ostrava, the club also helps organize the worldwide PARA Czech Open tournament.
The playing hall is open from early morning until late evening, where, besides elite players, you can also meet players from lower leagues, hobby players, and our senior members.
Competition structures
In the ten-team Men's Extraliga, we are the only club in the entire Czech Republic to field two teams, competing under the names TJ Ostrava KST and NH Ostrava. In addition, we have a complete structure of other men's league competitions, including the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd leagues. Younger players participate in district-level competitions.
We also have a team in the Women's Extraliga, which won bronze medals in the season before last.
Club finances and sponsors
The current budget for 2025 is secured through grants from the Statutory City of Ostrava, the Moravian-Silesian Region, and subsidies from the Czech Table Tennis Association for the Youth Sports Center (SCM). The club also generates additional funds by renting out the hall to individuals and companies, as well as through sponsorship donations.
Future and development
The club's board aims to maintain its current standing and strive to compete for medals in both the Men's and Women's Extraliga. However, our top priority is to focus on youth development and their gradual integration into the Extraliga teams. Our goal is not only to win medals and titles. We want to create a vibrant club where elite athletes, lower league players, seniors, and hobby players coexist in harmony, respecting and supporting each other, feeling comfortable, and taking pride and joy in being members.
